96 Sebring Coupe with 2.0 ltr engine, Upon WOT acceleration in the first second experience multiple backfires and missfires. In subsequent seconds of acceleration engine cleans up and misfire decreases to none. Have changed Coil, wires, plugs. and it didn't help. Plugs look lean except for #1 which is black soot. Checked fuel pressure and it idles at 40psi and goes up upon rpm increase. Trying to find location of fuel filter to change??. Has anyone fixed this problem.

Well, I had similar problem. The reason was the Stem Seal Valve on piston 3. It was worn out and too much oil was getting inside. $800 to replace including parts w/sparg plugs. The fuel filter on an Lxi is actually inside the fuel tank. Good Luck.

Missing problem solved by installing new spark plug wires. Must be specifice for a Sebring tried non Sebring wires (new) and they didn't fix problem. Fuel filter is under hood below water squirter tank. have to remove battery, Squirt tank, then can see fuel filter. If you have miss and back fire it is wires not the fuel filter.

Thanx for the info 55624096.
I had the same problem. Check engine light>Misfiring on cyl.5. First I put new sparks (Champion doble platinum). Didnt fix the problem. The I put knew MOPAR wires and the problem seems to be solved.
The wires need to have a specific resistance, if not prblems can occure.
