Daytime Running Lights 96silverado350 03-29-2005, 09:41 AM
well im kinda glad i ran across this site. i was searching for a troubleshooting site and found this one, yall seem pretty helpful. but anywho, i have a 1996 Chevy Silverado and about 2 months ago my daytime running lights just stopped working. as you all know they are the same bulbs as the regular headlights without the oranges. my DRL's stopped workin but my headlight works fine when i turn them on. i know about the override switch, that dont work, and my parking break is not engaged, and i checked the fuse and it looks fine. what else could cause the problem... any suggestions? chuck16 03-29-2005, 10:55 AM Isn't there a DRL Relay in the Electrical Center/Fuse box? Just a thought. 96silverado350 03-29-2005, 11:01 AM what is a relay? is it a fuse? if so i checked the specific one for DRL's. remember i got the old body style, a 96, might be a lil different from yours sdrado 03-29-2005, 11:16 AM I owned a 1996 Tahoe a few years back and had the same problem. Ended up replacing the switch and that took care of the problem. sdrado 03-29-2005, 11:20 AM Sorry, I wasn't very descriptive in the previous post, since there is no switch for the drl's. The whole park/headlight switch assembly was replaced and that took care of the problem 96silverado350 03-29-2005, 11:22 AM ahh so the whole thing with the dome override button and headlight lever??? how much did it cost you? BlenderWizard 03-29-2005, 12:35 PM Personally, I'd be happy if mine quit working... all they do is waste power. I know how to turn em off, but it becomes a PITA to push the "dome override" button 4 times every time I get in the truck. sdrado 03-29-2005, 02:36 PM Don't remember for sure, memory is starting to go south but it seems like it was in the $50-$70 range for the switch assembly. chuck16 03-29-2005, 03:50 PM Personally, I'd be happy if mine quit working... all they do is waste power. I know how to turn em off, but it becomes a PITA to push the "dome override" button 4 times every time I get in the truck. I thought that this just disabled the Automatic Headlight control? Not the DRL's? rabt 03-29-2005, 04:55 PM Personally, I'd be happy if mine quit working... all they do is waste power. BlenderWizard 03-29-2005, 08:56 PM I thought that this just disabled the Automatic Headlight control? Not the DRL's? It does both... shuts off DRL's during the day, and puts your headlights back on manual control TweakedGM 03-30-2005, 12:14 AM I would say try to find your drl diode they blow well the solder lets go. On the 1995 to 1998 the diode is to the right of the steering column look like a heatsink about 2" high 1 1/2" wide... Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
