L-series power?honda_guy 07-06-2001, 09:14 PM What kind of horsepower can you get out of the L-block 4 cylinders? I'm talking turbo, blown, N/A, whatever. So far, the highest I've seen is 180hp out of a N/A L18. Its a possibility I'm getting a 510 int the near future and I was hoping to avoid a Japanese-only engine swap like a Z18ET or SR20DET. ShockWave 08-11-2001, 03:17 PM In the current issue of Sport Compact Car (Sept 01) they profile a 510 that is producing around 200 hp. That's with some pretty serious modifications, and they did swap the original L16 engine for a L18. One of the great things about the 510, though, is that there is more then enough room for a very serious engine swap. I've heard of 510s with small block V8s crammed in them, which would make for a dangerously fast vehicle. honda_guy 08-12-2001, 01:20 AM Cool, thanks. Yeah, I've seen 510's with twin turbo Chevy V-6's too, but it just seems like the car would be more balanced with a lighter engine. Turbo91SER 10-21-2001, 11:47 AM If your looking for weight savings and power, most people go with the rotory conversion..... Jon datsun510dude 12-10-2001, 09:24 PM Ummm. Some of the info seems false but ill try and clear it up. A 180 or so HP L18 or L16 is going to require A LOT of money! I just got my LZ23 in and it makes about 200hp at the fly and about 170 ft lbs of torque. THAT IS A LOT OF POWER FOR A 2000LB CAR! You dont need a SR20DET! You can get a VG30 in there easy. Not the turbo though. I know a place that sells VG kits for the 510. The rotory conversion is $ and a lot of time. Not worth it in my opinion. It involves too much work and rotorys only last abotu 100,000 miles. You are better off with a nice VG30DE (about 1.5k rebuilt) and you can have it carbbed or EFI if you want, EFI just requires more work. Josh honda_guy 12-11-2001, 02:22 AM This goes agains the purist in me, but what about a Toyota 22RE? Its the 2.3L fuel injected SOHC four out of the pickups. I will be aquiring one soon and dont have a car to put it in. I believe they were around 120-130 hp stock and they have a mountain of torque. datsun510dude 12-11-2001, 08:08 AM Yea, good engine but I wouldnt go as far as replace an L series with one. If you want drivability get something close to stock or a VG30. Something fast, BUILT L series ot an LZ (combo of L and Z series) or u can get a VG30 since they are really torquey and good engines. datsun510dude 12-16-2001, 09:03 PM Heres a pic of my LZ23. About 200hp to the fly. CYA HONDAS! :D POS carb 02-28-2002, 12:06 PM nice man! BTW, what car does a VG30 come from? datsun510dude 02-28-2002, 10:48 PM 300zx and old maximas i think. Josh POS carb 03-01-2002, 01:14 AM check out this bad boy: http://www.bryanf.com/mycars/510V6.htm Twin turbo Chevy V-6 in a 510. Freaking amazing! projectsupra 04-16-2002, 04:56 AM what is that my LZ23 from? Also what mods made it 170hp? Or is that stock? was that from a dyno run or? Also does anyone know what maximas had the vg30 in it as far as year range? thanks! projectsupra 04-16-2002, 05:13 AM Oh I forgot to add check these out: datsuns.com great tech info and great online 510 board also maybe be quicker moving than this one... vg30.com swaps made easy using v6 also mckinley or mckinney motorsports has parts for the sr20 turbo swap but the sr20 is so high demand ppl overcharge I suggest a FJ20 which is 2L 190Hp in the turbo form 700 for this engine , 1000 for engine and tranny, ecu this engine came from the old skylines The above Z23 sounds good to datsun510dude 04-17-2002, 12:15 AM The LZ23 is from a Z22 truck block and a L series head. the Z22 block was bored to 2.3L I am actually selling it. 400 miles on it 200hp at the fly, and i paid over $6000 to get it built (OUCH!) Ill seperate for 3.5k Josh malcolm 03-13-2003, 10:08 PM Just drop in a 289 V8 they fit with not too much troble. I run a bored and stoked L20B to 2.4 litre make the 510 rock to around 150Mph. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
