98 Tahoe hesitates/surges

I have a 98 tahoe and I am having problems with it. About a month ago I noticed that when I am driving and I accelerate hard my truck seems to hesitate or surge. It feels as if it is not getting enough gas through. I am guessing. I changed the fuel pump about 2 yrs ago. I don't think this could be it. It is fine if I accelerate low, but when I push the gas pedal all the way down, it is when it starts to hesitate. What could the problem be if anyone has had this happen to them. I would really appreciate it. I love my tahoe and I've had it for quiet a while now. Please Help! Sorry for the long post.

I have a 99 tahoe with the same problem. I have changed the fuel filter, mas air flow sensor, distributor cap and rotter and air filter. Still haven't found out what th problem is. Its in the shop right now and they can't find anything. The guy told me it was the mas air flow sensor so i picked it up and changed it. That thing cost $179. But if you have found out what the problem is, please let me know. I'll do the same if I find something.

I would do a tune up. Change the cap, rotor, plugs, wires and fuel filter. Check and replace the air filter too. Wouldn't hurt to also put in a bottle of fuel system cleaner. I like SeaFoam myself.

Bowtie freak. Read my post agian and then think about then respond to us. the only thing I haven't done is change the wires, but I've checked them and they are fine.

So how did you check the wires....pop the hood and visually look at them? The outside jacket may not show signs of damage, but inside the wire could have gone bad. The plugs don't get the proper voltage, you have problems. Also what about the plugs, how many miles are on them? Pull them out and make sure the gap is correct. To much or to little and it effects the plug's performance. It's very doubtful, but could be either the ignition coil or the control module. But replace the plugs and wires and I bet your problems stop.

I have to agree with bowtie, I replaced everything when tuning up my hoe, except the wires. Under hard accel or pulling a long hill, it would load up/stutter/hesitate. I replaced them with good wires, not the checker autolites, I used AC Delco replacements. And all is GOOD!

I am having the same problem as of today with my 96 hoe. I have it tore apart as of now but so far all I have found was some orings off the fuel rails were in peices and lodged in the path of the fuel to the injectors, I wont know if this is the problem till tomorrow untill parts store opens but if this works I will keep you informed or if you have found the problem please let me know. Thanks

The problem with mine was the fuel pump. I'm not saying it's the same with yours but if it doesn't work out with the o rings, then change the fuel pump or pay $50 to have the diagnostic test run.

Yep you was right , The next morn I went out fixed the orings and went to start my hoe and I didnt hear the pump prime. So I knew right away it was the pump. The damn thing had been making a loud high pitch sound for the past 3 years and just now went out. The new pump I can barly hear it running. Thanks for the info though.
