Escort with weird clutch problem!! Has pressure, then it doesn't???raptor125 03-24-2005, 04:13 PM I have had my 91 for over a year now, and the car has been very faithful to me. The only problem I have had with it is the darn clutch. This is the thrid time the clutch is messing up. I have replaced the slave cylinder back in August of last year, and replaced the master cyclinder in Octobober 2004. Anyway, everything seemed okay for awhile until recently. Now the darn clutch is messing up again. It is weird thou, I can get in it and push on the clutch and it sometimes has pressure and will alllowe me to shift. But then other times I put my foot on it, and no pressure. I noticed it doing that last night when driving home. I can press it and shift and then if I press it again like a minute later, nothing. But then do it again, I have a clutch. What the heck is up with that? Any ideas??? A. Souphound 03-24-2005, 07:03 PM I have had my 91 for over a year now, and the car has been very faithful to me. There is a spring between the throw-out bearing and the housing. If the bearing binds on the shaft it will stretch the spring, and then vibration etc. will allow the spring to pull the bearing back in place, and you have clutch pressure again.......that's my guess. The pivot points and shaft are lubricated at the factory, and should be again, if replaced. Also lubricate the clutch shaft on top of the clutch bell housing. The shaft is in a bushing, and could also bind. Dont forget to lube the cable. mustang302 03-25-2005, 11:47 AM What about if you pump the clutch pedal a little, does it have a good feel then? I think it sounds like air trapped in the system. I would first try bleeding it at the slave cylinder, and see if you get any air out before I get into the clutch itself.
