High Beam/Signal Switch... How hard to replace?

A while ago while having the Left Turn Signal on, I tried to blink the High Beams to a opposing motorist trying to make a left turn in front of me so he could go ahead and I heard a not familiar clicking noise (like when plastic breaks) from the steering column. I immediately knew something broke, but the blinker was working fine even tho it felt different when switching from high to low beams.
After a while the blinker started missing and sometimes staying off while trying to switch from low to high or vise versa making it very unsafe on dark roads.
Now the blinker won't even click or blink from low to high beam, so I know it needs replacement.
Anyone done this before? Is it hard to do? Whats the part number and how much it costs? Should I buy it new or am I safe getting it at the salvage yard?

If it is the dimmer switch here is a good "how to " link. There is also a place that shows you how to test your dimmer switch. Have fun.

The switch I'm refering to is the one that lets you switch between the headlight's high and low beam at the steering column actuated by the turn signal lever. The one you're talking about is the dimmer/switch that turns the headlights on or off at console bessel.

You need a steering wheel puller to pull the steering wheel. Once that is off, I believe the switch is easy to get to. 3 or 4 screws and disconnect the wiring cable. I would find one at the salvage yard. It is all one big unit. You may need to remove the plastics around the steering column once the steering wheel is removed.
