Lower the steering wheelwesmills 03-20-2005, 10:56 PM I just bought a 96 Escort LX Sport (3dr hatchback) for my wife, and I need to lower the steering wheel so she can drive it. The car did not come with the tilt-wheel option, there's just a rubber cover where the lever should be. I've found the bolts that can be removed to drop the column, but I need some ideas on how to keep the steering wheel lowered, but secured. My current idea (untested) is to get some new, longer, bolts of the same diameter, thread them through the holes on the column, put a couple decent-sized nuts on the other side to act as spacers, then bolt the column back to the dash mount. Any potential downsides to this, or any other ideas? Thanks, Wes bigrod118 03-21-2005, 05:42 PM actually I did this already once. I took out those bolts and found the same bolts just longer and at the hardware store found some white nylon spacers, they already had holes in them I just had to drill them out to a bigger diameter, but that worked great. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
