'96 GTP loud electric motor like sound under dash cold stevebrodsky 03-20-2005, 07:31 PM
I just bought a 96 GTP and I hear a very loud annoying electric motor energized when I start the car cold (not a fuel pump), it goes on noisily for a few minutes then turns off, its very loud inside the interior, so I am under the impression its under the dash somwhere, but it really sounds like a cooling fan on steroids. anyone know what this might be? its definitly an electric motor of some kind, and its stinking loud! sounds like a tweaking cooling fan. any idea please email me at stevebrodsky@comcast.net Oh Ya and are there any performance mods avail for the 96 models, all i see everywhere is for 97 and up, wehats up with that? They will make a noise if they are going bad that sounds like the noise you describe and once they warm up the noise will go away. stevebrodsky 03-21-2005, 06:58 AM If I were you I would look at the HVAC fan. I really feel like its a cooling fasn , justso loud inside its fooling me..Thanks GTP DAD I found the source of the noise today , its my secondary air pump under the front passenger fender, which i feel is also the cause of my p0410 code, gm says the code is a common new england problem on this kind of car, the water in the check valves flows back to the sir pump and damages it and causes a code, maybe causes this sound too , so Ill have to order a new one and reset my computer. Ill post the result later after I do it, I might just unplug the stupid thing for now. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
