Last year i blew the 3.1l Engine. I had it replaced with a used one.
Then the head gasket went. We just rebuilt the top half of that engine now i have 2 problems.
Upon fnishing the engine we are left with 1 vacume line that does not go anywhere. It runs allong the firewall and looks like it would attach to the top of the exaust manifold but there is a cap over that spot. Upon looking at my old manifold (saved all the good parts off old engine) it does not ahve the cap there. Is it posible that the last mechanice to put the engine in never attached that hose and it should go to the manifold?

Also now when ever i turn on the head lights and hit a bump all my dashlights die and will not come on untill i turn the headlights off and on a few times. I am asumeing a short or bad switch. where should i start looking?

Thank you

Hunt down the same car and trace the line's. Try autotrader and find one close to home and pretend your gonna bye it and check out the line's... :iceslolan

#2 Sound's like switch...

no vacuum hoses go to the exhaust manifold, so you can rule that out. Is the extra vacuum line on the car or on the engine. IF it's on the car and goes along the firewall, does your heater controls switch from heat to defrost to vent, etc.. properly? IF it's stuck on half floor/half defrost, the extra line is for the control that switches heater modes. IF the line is on the engine, don't drive the car as this could cause a dangerous lean condition that could do serious engine damage. One more question, did the new engine come from the same year and modle car, or different? The dash light problem is most likely a bad headlight switch.

That sounds like ti i have had it stuck on hlaf def/heat since the replaced engine. where should i look to plug it in to get eh heat and vent working? this sucked during the summer thought it was just a bad switch though.

Actualy the engine came from a caravan so no where close to the same model car. Thats why i figured it went on the top of the engine where that cap is on the new(used) engine but the cap is not on the old one so it looks like it should go there.

Well i tried to attach it anyway I guess i was wrong it;s the intake not manifold Part that says 3.1L on it. Well after connecting it the Heat controls work great if a bit musty smelling considering they have been stuck for almost a year .

thanks for the help
