1998 Grand Am Race Car abs traction control help???

I'm turning a 98 Grand Am into a race car. It has a 3.1L engine. When I go to stomp on it, it will spin the tires like it should (this is on mud), but then the rpms will drop after a few seconds. I unplugged the abs system by the two plugs on top of the abs unit. I pulled the big 40 amp fuse for the abs under the hood. Does this have something to do with the traction control???? I'm stumped-someone help me fix this problem

Most likely, or the fuel pump is dying. Have you tried turning off the traction control and trying it? On newer GA's as far as I understand it, the ABS system works each drive wheel independantly to maintain traction. I know on my '01, with the traction control turned off and the e-brake pulled I can make amighty nice smoke show.

Is it possibly the rev limiter kicking in, if the rpm get too high the rev limiter will knock down the engine.
Just a thought.

why dont you just turn the trac control off? on my 96 the switch is on the left side of the shifter. should be the same for your year?

Don't all cars have a rev limiter?? What I can't figure out is that I raced a 96 Beretta with a 3.1 (basically the same car!) and it didn't perform like that-when you put your foot in it-it went!! Any opinions
