The sensor is located DS, lower portion on engine block, very close to the mating surface of the oil pan, has 2 wire connector, sits directly below another sensor that is about "middle of the block, same side. It is an 88' 4.0ltr, auto in a Limited XJ. Thanks in advance.

I just looked in my repair book, saw a picture of it, but did not say what is was! I would go to the dealer parts man and have him look it up

I'm with Dale. On my 88, it's the knock sensor.
