Screaming 02 Trep

Hey guys, it's Nick again....I thought of something that I didn't put in my "squeal with throttle when cold" post...could it be the water pump? Is it possible to have that thing be bad and scream without overheating? This problem baffles me. Also, is there a way to check trouble codes on a 2002 es intrepid without a scanner, like the 3-key-turn method for the older intrepids? Or do I have to go to Autozone and have them break out the orange code monster??

If you have a squeal, check your belts first to make sure that they're tight. How many miles do you have? As far as the check engine light, you're going to have to go to Autozone or some place that can pull up trouble codes.

thank you for you reply. the belts are perfect and i found the trouble codes. you can click the key 3x like the old treps. but i still dont know what the sqeal is.

you were able to pull up the codes w/ the key method? I thought Chrysler did away w/ that after 98 on most Intrepids? I have an '02 as well, and have not been able to do that........oh well no biggie. How many miles are on your car? The recommended timing belt replacement is 105,000 miles, but if you bearings inside your water pump have gone bad, replace the belt, pump and cam and crank oil seals while you're at it.

hey freaknasty....79k on the trep....I thought you couldn't do the codes with the key either. I tried it, and it says the code where your odometer is. it doesnt flash the check engine light like the old school cars, it actually says P1695 and then it shows a bunch of hyphens to space between codes then it says "done" at the end. you wouldn't happen to know what the P1695 code is, would you? by the way...click that key all the way on without starting, off, on, off, on and leave on. then watch your odometer.
