1st, has anyone done any port/polish on a 2.4? And if so was there any noticible gain in performance? I know how to port/polish and have/can get the tools, im just wondering if its worth my time. Also im just wondering if anyone knows of a company that makes a reprogrammed pcm for a 96-98 GA 2.4, or something to reprogram the pcm. I was out today at an old air strip/converted drag (finally found one near me  )and i hit the rev limiter at about 105-107. Now this was in third gear at about 5K, i know the speedo is only up to like 115, but i really believe this car can kick out more than that. So thanks in advance for any input.

I haven't personally done a P&P on a 2.4, but I could tell you a little about it. First of all, isn't your intake manifold plastic? You can't P&P that, can ya? A minor P&P on the TB would be nice - just don't do it where the throttle plate meets the side. P&Ping the heads would also be worth it. If you were to say, p&p the heads, p&p the TB, and find a way to p&p the intake manifold, I would say that, on an engine like yours (running 150 hp I think), with an intake and maybe an exhaust, that all that p&p would bring about a 10 hp gain - most of which would come from the head work.

If you have the time, I'd say it's worth it, cause all it takes is time, no money if you already have the stuff.

yea i think the intake is plasticish.. so not much can be done there. Maybe a little polish, and i guess you could port it as well...just being really careful...and the port/polish on the TB and the head would not be too hard...the problem would be finding time to do it...cuz i drive the car everyday...i already have an intake...i ran it stright out of the tb and took out that stupid resinator or whatever it is...im planning on setting up the dual hose or multiple hose setup that iv heard people talking about...thanks for your input...any ideas on the pcm reprogram?

Hey I thought I'd just throw in - when you p&p the intake manifold & TB - you must remove them from the car. The risk of leaving shavings and shit on them to get sucked in later is too great - remove them, and when you're done, wash them out really good with water and did the throttle body in throttle body cleaner after you rinse it - allow both to dry thoroughly.

About the PCM, sorry, but I searched my ass off, and apparently, nobody has ever made a reprogrammed PCM for the 2.4. :(

yea last night i searched and searched and i cant find one either...i did find something that im planning to do...im gunna P&P, install 2.3 cams, maybe a 2.3 head (do you know how much that bumps compression, i know it must b/c the head on the 2.4 is like 60cc and the 2.3 is like 50 or something like that) and im gunna try and make a more custom CAI, and im gunna try a different exhaust. But thatnk you very much for your help.

No problem Justin. I believe the stock head is 56.5 cc. If the 2.3 is 50 cc, then that would increase your compression ratio to an amazing 11.3 : 1, versus the stock compression ratio of 10:1. That is if I did my calculations correctly.

You can't just throw 2.3 heads on the 2.4 block. You have to change the pistons if you do this. The chanber on the 2.3 is significantly small than the 2.4. Read this article, it should really help you out.

yea i figured you couldn't...thats why i asked how much it bumped compression. I have read many articles on it, wouldnt you need different head gaskets and stuff as well because of the higher compression? But thanks for informing me again

however the cams are pretty much interchangable as long as you get the ones from the 95 2.3 or something (i dont remember exactly what i read) is that right?

Yeah, I'll have to re-read it, I know it's not impossible. I'll look into some more, I may not be back on until next week though, got some family visiting and a few appointments with my realtor, so I'll be preety tied up all this week but I'll see what I can dig up for you.
