96 Jetta Knocking gth.berg 03-15-2005, 08:15 PM
I'm getting a knocking/popping sound on acceleration and occassionally on deceleration. It's not the strut mounts, which I thought it was, as those have recently been replaced. Think it could maybe be CV joints, but it doesn't do it when turning, which I would think it would. Engine mounts all appear to be solid. Any ideas? Thanks! boschmann 03-19-2005, 04:53 PM Engine/trasaxle mounts, ball joints & control arm bushings, perhaps a tie rod or steering rack mount. mike1989 11-23-2005, 11:24 PM my 96 jetta when i would accelerate it would sound like rocks moving around. it was my exhaust that was loose. it took me a while to figure out but thats what it was. nessa8223 04-05-2006, 05:25 AM I have the same problem with my 94 Jetta. It makes a knocking sound in the front end when accellerating and braking. I took it to a shop and had the CV axles (with boots) replaced, both lower ball joints replaced, and I have a whole new front braking system. Everyone who has heard the sound says it sounds like my axles, but it can't be because I replaced them literally 6 days ago. If anyone has a clue what I should do, let me know. My email is nessacap82@aim.com This is driving me crazy, and scares me because I have to drive my children around in this car. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
