Got a 2000 GC thar is making a ringing sound from the transfer acse and traveling up the driveshaft to the front wheels. With the rear wheels on the ground and the front off I can turn the front drive shaft. Is this normal. I got the jeep dealer to print me off a breakdown of the quadrartrac but I dont see the viscous coupler inside like I was expecting. Any ideas?

you don't have a viscous coupling.
The VC was used on quadratrac (ZJ models), you have quadra-trac II which uses a gerotor pump that engagaes your 4WD.

Ok, So what is causing the noise from the case. Is the pump bad? Jeep doesnt even show a reman transfer case.

I'm not too familiar with your transfer case, but it could be the chain is loose (got stretched). have you checked the fluids in the Transfer Case. if you are low on fluid the the TC would make all kinds of funny noises.

Yes, I do believe that the front wheels and driveshaft will spin even tho rear wheels are on the ground.
