Well looks like I need to take care of my throw out bearing, I don't have a lift so I went to go quote a mechanic. 800 bucks! holy s*** I don't have 800 bucks!

how hard could it be to fix this thing guys and if absolutely necessary is this even a fair price? My gods 800 bucks??! wow

Hopefully you have a professional manual or something for your removal of your throw out bearing located in the 2.4 L manual transmission. What you need to do is follow your manuals directions for removal of the transaxle. This requires the removal of the shift linkage, starter, all transmission mount bolts, CV shafts, hub assembly dissasembled, air box assembly, power steering, battery removal. This is what was all required while my removal of my transmission. The "throw out bearing" is located around the spline sticking out of the transmission. There are two connectors that need to be removed on top of the transmission to get it out. Then just slide the throw out bearing off the end of the spline, put the new one on and follow steps in reverse order. Good luck on your car. :biggrin:

doesn't sound too difficult. I need to steal my good jack back from my cousin. I might as well wait to fix it until after I return from reno sos I can throw that HO TB and Intake Manifold on there too. One step at a time... that's all it takes.

also plan on your car being outta commission for a few days, maybe even a week if you dont know what ure doing...

Be careful when dropping the tranny, it's not light!

yeah I know I've had to bench press a tranny for a few seconds before due to lack of proper tools. Never again....... And yeah the Tranny in my dad's AMC Eagle took me and him about a week so I'm prepared for the worst. Borrowed a Pontiac Grand Prix GT.... yes it has the 3800 and yes I'm tempted to take it... >.> hah

it's rather easy to do yourself.. ur gonna have to drop the K-frame under the car in order to give the trans enough room to drop.. make sure u un-clip the slave cylinder from the TOB (hold both pieces, push in and twist really hard).. drop the trans with help- use chains or rope for support. then just pull the TOB out, stuff the new one it- DO NOT GREASE THE NEW TOB- and reinstall everything.. make sure u connect the slave cylinder back to the TOB correctly- and bleed the system. ive been told u can gravity bleed the clutch system by just leaving the resevoir cap off over night.. but im too impatient for that :) just bleed it.

why do u think ur TOB is bad anyway?
