'95 Jetta clutch release

Hi,
This is my first post. I just bought a '95 Jetta GL last night. I've owned an '80 Scirocco and a '91 Jetta before. The Scirocco (used from a friend) was great, the Jetta (new from the dealer) was not. But this '95 felt comfortable and I bought it only as a beater commuter car so I'm not expecting too much.
Anyway, the clutch on this car lets out very high. I recall that was the same on my old Scirocco, and it never changed or wore out. I couldn't get this one to slip last night, and there are no noises in any gear with the clutch in or out, so I'm assuming it's OK and that's just the way it is.
I know I'll eventually get used to this again, but I'm wondering if there is any adjustment for this that would allow the clutch to catch lower. I bought it with my 16 year old daughter somewhat in mind so she can learn to drive a clutch, and I see this high release point and small slip range as being difficult to teach on.

The cable is self adjusting, but I believe you can change it over to the earlier manual adjust type.
