Idle Stays High at Stops...Then Drops

I few weeks ago I noticed I kept having to press the brakes harder than usual to stop and finally realized that when I'm rolling to a stop the RPMs stay at about 1000 until a few seconds after I'm completely stopped. Then the RPMs kind of step down in 2 or 3 increments (duration of about 3 seconds) to around 600 which has always been the normal idle speed. The engine keeps running smoothly the whole time and once its down it stays there until I take off and try to stop again. There is no "I'm gonna stall...no I'm not...yes I am...no I'm not...like I've experienced when I had intake problems with my old S10 pickup. No SES.

remove and clean you IAC valve.

lubricate linkages at carb that control this. anyone know the best lube for this ? i've sprayed oil but it doesn't last long from the heat.

No. Haven't gotten around to puttin the ol' carb on there yet. Seriously though, Blazer Lt, first of all sorry for making you have to look in my profile for the year of my truck...bad form on the forum.

Anyway, I have read though many posts where you've suggested cleaning the IAC. I haven't found a description of how this is accomplished which leads me to believe it is very simple, however I have no experience and was wondering if you could shed some light on the process.

Also, lately I've been coming up around 20-50 miles short on a full tank. Could this be a factor in my fuel economy?

For one, in the winter, expect your economy to drop as the temperature drops.

The IAC valve will be close to your butterfly and has to be removed and scrubbed with a toothbrush and throttle body cleaner and also you will need to clean the hole the valve inserts into.
