ok, im trying to get the turn signals on my nova working properly...but i think my flashers are out (not the bulbs, i mean the little electrical device that actually makes them flash) we've checked everything else except the flashers...here's my question: where is the flasher located on a '73 nova? respond asap if you know! i want my beast back on the road quickly!

Well I know on my 68 its behind the dash on the left of the ash tray. Stick your hand up there and get a flash light. Feel for something round, and its clipped in.It looks exactly like the one on the fuse box. Dont worry you'll find it. You can easily pick that item up at any parts store.

If it's not just under the lip of the dash on the drivers side, it may be pluged into the fuse panel.

You may also want to check to make sure that on the outer housing of the bulb casing there should be two metal prongs. If those arn't getting a good ground to the outside of the housing then the turn signals wont work. Also, theturn signal flasher is under the dash in near the center, the one on the fuse panel if for your hazards. Good luck.

alright..i found my flashers, or rather i put some in because there weren't any plugged in! my hazards work but my flashers/turn signals are still dead! ive checked the bulbs and everything, and im just nt getting power to any of the flashers...i hate working with electronics! HELP!

When you say your hazards now work what exactly do you mean? Are the bulbs at all four corners flashing? The reason I ask is because you also say you are "getting no power to any of the flashers."
I think these cars have a separate flasher unit for the signals but it's been a long time since mine went out so I'm not positive. If so try checking for that. Since your hazard flasher was missing the signal unit might be also. The bulbs and sockets are the same for the hazards, signals or brake lights so if they ever light for any system they are not the problem. You may need to pull the steering wheel to check the switch and wiring. Let us know what you find.

Another thing it could be the unit under the steering wheel. Check for power and grounds at the plug on the lower mid area of the column. You can use a meter to see if there is continuity from the switch. You should also have 12 volts at one of the terminals where the flasher plugs into. :2cents:

my hazards works at all four corners. both flashers were missing and have been replaced. could it be possible that i just have a dead wire? i pulled the bulbs and checked with a continuity tester...the hazard terminals in the sockets work but the turn signal terminals get no power whatsoever... grrrrr!

It is possible the wire is broken somewhere, but more lightly disconnected . Also check the fuse holder and see if the is 12 volts to one side, replace with new fuse. Some fuses look good but are not. Like I said earlier, if there is power at the fuse and at the flasher plug, then it has to be the switch under the wheel.

Do the hazard flashers and the signal flashers have the same flasher, or are they different part numbers?Will the signal terminal have any power to it without the signal arm depressed left or right?

The hazard flasher is usually bigger, and will have a different # It has to make all the lights flash at the same time. The turn signal only does half at a time.

ok..signals work now! bad fuse and crappy connection was all that was left! but now i have a new question: what does the fuze control thats in the bottom right of the fuze box? under it it says: INST LP4 and i think its a size 4A fuze. i've never had one in there and until rcently had never really looked very closely at it. so what does that little guy do?

I think it's for the instrument lights, Check each side with the tester. First without the key on, then with key off and headlight switch on and see if you get power to one side of the fuse holder. Even if your not sure what it does it won't hurt to have a good fuse in it. Good luck.
