Rebuilt Transmission - Normal?

I just had the transmission on my 97 Blazer LS 4x4 rebuilt at around 112,000. I have since put about 1500 miles on the transmission. I believe that this happened before the rebuild. It sometimes will bang into second. It seems to happen when im slowing down to a stop sign and then when I go to accelerate through it, it bangs into gear. It doesnt happen all the time. The fluid level is not low (first thing I thought of). I cant recall

From what I've heard, there are quite a few things that can go wrong with a 4L60-E that will cause this issue. Most of them are faults in the valve body... it could be something as simple as an accumulator check ball sticking, or it might be a worn valve bore. The standard recommendation of flushing fluid and changing filters shouldn't apply to such a fresh rebuild. Is it still under warranty from the rebuilder?

Are you getting a service engine soon light at all?

What all was replaced when the transmission was rebuilt? Or if you don't know that, how much did it cost? Did they warranty their work?

I would also suspect it could be a valve body or shift solenoid issue. Most "good" shops will replace the solenoids and do all the valve body updates when they rebuild the tranny... if it was done somewhere more budget-oriented, though, they may have just replaced what absolutely needed to be.

I spent about 2400. I had it rebuilt at Aamco. The valve body was replaced with a rebuilt valve body that the technician there told me was bored out and had all the updates done. There is no service engine light on at all. I know they put it in a new torque converter as for anything else they did im not sure. I'd have to check the bill when I get home (i'm at work at the moment). Thanks...

So it downsifts hard into first right when you are coming to a stop light and accelerate before coming to a complete stop?

I'm not sure about the downshifting part. When I go to stop at a stop sign, my habit is to roll through it. So, when I slow down to about 5mph then hit the gas somtimes it'll knock into gear. It doesn't do it all the time but enough for me to notice it. If I recall correctly, it was doing this before my tranny was rebuilt. To sum it up, it happens when Im rolling slowly at 5mph or so and then hit the gas to accelerate.

This is the transmission downshifting into first.

Mine does it also.

The bump feeling may also be exaggerated by slack in the driveline due to worn u-joints or maybe a sloppy differential. With the trans is neutral and the parking brake on, can you rotate your driveshaft by hand more than 1/4 inch or so? This is assuming that your issue is the bump/bang into first after decel rather than bang/bump on 1-2 upshift though.

It's snowing right now and im at work so I cant get under the car right now... I'll check that as soon as I get some dry pavement to get under the car. I'll keep you posted.

It makes sense what BlazerLT said. I never thought of it that way. It's upshifting fine into 2nd.

I purchased the car at 70,000 miles and im not sure whether or not the rear diff. has been drained and filled. How hard is it, you think I can do it myself (I dont have much experience with cars)?
How often should this be done?

What you are seeing is when you are creeping along and then you start to accelerate, the computer takes a couple seconds to sense that 2nd gear is too high of a gear and the transmission downshifts properly.

As said previously, mine does it all the time.

Thanks BlazerLT from reading tons of other posts I put a lot of faith into that statement. Keep up the informative posts for newbies like me

You are the shit.
