2001 Blazer Operating Temp Question?

I searched the forum, and got one result close to what I wanted answered, but still am not sure, thus me posting..

First off, I did a complete flush of the coolant system, installed a new 190 T-Stat, and all is well(Last Summer). It reached around 180, or LESS! Now, since the weather has been getting a little warmer(In NM), the gauge reads one tick below 210. It varies between the tick, and 210. I 'Think' it's operating OK, but since the little difference, should I worry about it? I took the radiator cap off today, and when I squeezed the bottm hose, some Crap came out with fluid. It was like black, sludge stuff. Hard to explain what it looks like. :eek7:

I've heard some horror stories about the "Orange" GM coolant. Is it the coolant starting to 'sludge' up?! I mean, it's only been in there around a year. No leaks, and I've always had it up to the full mark(When hot).

One tick left of 210 is perfect. If you did not replace the defective factory radiator cap it could have easily sludged up in that time. You should get a Stant from Advance Auto. Stant is the best but any one other than AC Delco will work.

Replace the rad cap with a new one, but do NOT use a AC delco.

I forgot to mention that I did replace the radiator cap when I flushed the system out. It's not an AC Delco one.

I was pretty sure that the temp was OK, but wanted to make sure. Thx for the info.

What should I do about the sludge build-up?! I was thinking on changing the coolant out, flushing w/o T-Stat(Which I did last summer), a little later on. But, I shouldn't have to do that tho. Why in the heck is it building up sludge in such a short time?!

I've heard horror stories about this new 'Coolant' sluding up the radiator/engine as to where it's nearly impossible to Flush out.

Thx for the suggestions, I appreciate it.

You should have the cooling system flushed out professionally with cleaners to get it all out and have the heater core reverse flushed.

New coolant can be destroyed quickly when exposed to air.

Absolutely, do what BlazerLT says get a professional flush done. What you will ask for when you go to your favorite garage is a "Reverse Power Flush". Be sure that it includes the Heater Core too. It should run Approx. $60-$90 USD. :naughty:

Thank you guys.. I will do that. I guess that cooling cleaner @ the parts places aren't that good enough!! I learned a Valuable lesson here..

For the once you do it every 5 years, best to have them do a really good job at it and handle the mess.

Believe me, it does cause quite a mess.
