96 Blazer fuses & not starting

The dash and tail light are out on my 96 Blazer. When I pulled the fuse out to check to see if it was blown the truck died like you turned the key off. The fuse looked fine and I put it back in, it's kind of loose in there and you have to wiggle the fuse marked for gauges to get it to start. The fuse next to the gauge fuse is marked for the engine. How could the fuse marked for gauges have anything to do with the truck running. It turns over fine but acts like it's not getting any gas. I don't want to have to wiggle a fuse all the time to get it started.
Please excuse my ignorance.
Any ideas?

remove the fuse panel and check for connections that may have popped off behind it.

Don't forget to disconnect the battery first. Welcome to the forum. Listen to BlazerLT, he knows what he's talking about.
