99 neon crankshaft dampermaschuck 03-08-2005, 02:50 PM I have a 99 neon with a 2.0 that doesn't want to let go of its crank damper. I've tried the 3 jawed puller that the manual recommends, so far i've bent the damper bolt, and cracked the hub portion of the damper. Has anyone seen this problem before? is there anything to make it easier? Austin8214 03-08-2005, 04:49 PM is that the DOHC or SOHC engine? maschuck 03-08-2005, 09:07 PM is that the DOHC or SOHC engine? its the SOHC Austin8214 03-09-2005, 11:20 AM The one I pulled did not give me any trouble. The only thing i found was that the bolt has to stay in damper loosen it so there is about 1/4" between the head of the bolt and the damper. Then it should come. Also try to use some WD-40 or penetrating oil. if that doesn't work then it sounds like you need a new damper anyway if it is cracked then use a diegrinder and cut the old one off. Do not use a torch to cut the old one off as it will fry the crank seal. skatendestroy 03-13-2005, 11:39 PM take propane torch heat it up real good then tap it with a hammer it should loosen up then.... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
