I just got a 1985 GMC Jimmy, same as K5 Blazer. It has a 305 Engine, original with 6000 miles on a rebuild. I always thought the 350 was a good one, but dont know alot about this one. Is this a good engine that is powerful? How does it compare to the 350? What modifications can be done to it to increase power? Thanks

Defiently exhaust. If you go a step further get headers for it, high flow cat and a cat back system, that will for sure wake it up. For sure intake too. If its a carb, a good carb intake setup will help. If fuel injected, try looking for a good used 350 or 454 aluminum intake and TBI combo, port polish the intake etc. Heads...the list goes on and on....The 305 is very dependable, just like the 350. Its smaller version of the 350 basiclly. I presently have a stock all original 305 TPI camaro. I want to keep it stock, numbers matching. One thing I was thinking to do though was stroke the 305 and get it to about 330HP. I am a believer in the mighty 305's!!

I forgot also, a good upgrade of the ignition system will help out a lot. A good set of wires too, something like Taylors or Accels 300+ wires cap a rotor....
