Just wondering is the gasket problem an issue that all the ventures have? I am thinking about getting a 2001. Are there any other common issues that the ventures have?

Read through the entire forum and you won't need to ask if there are any other issues with the Venture. They are an affordable van but buy at your own risk!!
Check with GM to see if the engine trouble is gone yet.

Hi

I have a 2001 Venture since new and yes the gasket thing happened on mine also at 70,000 kms. I would say it will happen with them all sooner or later. (2001 anyway).

I like the feel of the van and is good on the highway, but I really expect a lot more problems once I hit the 100K mark. Lets hope I'm wrong.

My friend has a mOntana with 100K and the problems are starting up again, check engine light and some sensor had to be changed, other electrical problems also.

I guess it all depends on price and be prepared to sink over $1000 into it a year for maintenance.

good luck

I can honestly tell you that I would, and will, detour the entire gm line, as they have piss poor engineers and qc is out he window. Customer service is a joke ,they no what the problem is an will not help any owner, so now we all have to file civial actions against them. Do not buy venture!Montana!Trans Sport! or Silhouette!

If the vehicle had the intake gaskets replaced recently it should have the updated gaskets intalled which seems to have solved the problem. If not the gaskets should be replaced.

PS
The problem is not with the particular vehicle but with the design of the gasket.
They all leak with the 3.4L engine no matter what vehicle the were installed in.

I just had the intake gaskets replaced on my '99. Other than that its been a great vehicle. Cost me $525, so if thats all I have to pay to have done other than routine maintenance, I guess I can't complain too much. I've had the van 3 years.
I would definitely recommend you ask if the gaskets have been replaced/make the salesman knows you are aware of the problem, try to get him to come down in price. I wouldn't trust the intake gaskets on ANY GM 3.1/3.4 V6 equipped vehicle. Doesn't mean don't buy, it just means be ready to replace those gaskets.
