350 crate enginejo john 03-06-2005, 06:03 PM hey guys, i found a 350 small block shevy for cheap and was wondering if it is possible to do or if it will even fit. If so what type of space will i be dealing with inside the engine compartment and what mods do i have to do. Xander_42 03-07-2005, 08:56 PM I've seen it done with a small block ford, and it was pretty cramped. I figure a small block chevy would fit, but you might need a shoe horn and some anal lube. Actually you'd need some really good fabrication skills, because puuting that much torque in one of those cars would probably rip it apart if it was not mounted right and if the car was not strengthened properly. Problem is, that "olds" V8 is about half the size (and weight) of a small block Chevy V8. Not much of a comparison. I have seen a 283 V8 in a 510. With the old style "ram's horn" exhaust manifolds it can be made to fit. But it is super tight. If you haven't bought the engine yet, better to start with a 302 Ford. And FWIW, an SR20DET can make similar power for half the weight. :grinyes: Toyrolla 08-02-2005, 11:21 PM And FWIW, an SR20DET can make similar power for half the weight. :grinyes: I agree Datsunfreak. This is why the SR20DET is the swap of choice... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
