1990 E-350 - no spark!

Hey Guys,

I've replaced the coil, wires, plugs, icm, and tfi.

I have 12 volts at the business end of the coil and voltage is reaching the distributor.

Voltage is however not leaving the distributor and there is no voltage to the spark plugs and thus no spark.

Any ideas?

I gotta get this baby running asap - a this is my box truck for work.

Cheers,

-Tad

If you have spark at the distributor but not getting to the individual wires, change the cap & rotor.

Alright, I'm going to install a new cap & rotor now - will let you know how it goes :)

Thanks,

-Tad

No Joy - still don't work - I'm going to try replacing the pickup coil - any idea how to get that baby out? I've got the distrib out but cant seem to find a way to the pickup coil.

Knock the roll pin out of the drive gear, slide the gear off, and slide the shaft out. The pickup coil should be accessible then. Before you throw any more parts at it, you need to troubleshoot the primary ignition system to find where the trigger signal is lost. You may have an open/short in the wiring harness. Check for trigger at the negative side of the coil and work your way back to the distributor.

I'll let you know when I'm done replacing the pick up coil - 2 of the 3 plugs on it look brown/burnt so I'm hoping that's it - if not I'll need to hit you up for some more directions on finding shorts - I barely know how to use a mulimeter ;)

I got the roll pin(s) out , there was one in the gear and one in a spacer above it. I'm assuming I needed to remove both.

I can't get the gear to come off however - nothing I do seems to work!

If the gear is held on with a roll pin, it should slide off. There may be sludge or varnish hanging it up. Soak it down with carb. cleaner. You may have to gently tap it off.
