shifting problemsfd25 03-04-2005, 06:20 PM hello, i have a 2001 jeep gc with slightly over 54,000 miles. im having problems shifting into all gears. the engine will rev up to about 4000 rpm before kicking into 2nd or 3rd gears. trans fluid was just changed about 3 months ago, and no metal shavings were found in pan. any ideas before i condem my trans would be greatly apreciated. thanks fd25 porscheguy9999 03-04-2005, 11:32 PM What engine does it have? The V8 is problematic at times. The 4.0L I6 (what my 95 GC has) is very good. There was another thread about two weeks ago that had a similar problem with 2nd and 3rd. I just said to have the individual gears checked before you do anything. So that may help. But I'm not very familiar with the 99'+ models. The engines stayed the same (for the most part) but the rest changed. dksob81 03-05-2005, 12:04 AM the good thing with newer trannys is electrical, altho sometime bad, about 98% of tranny problems is Electrical related. Sounds like the TV cable is disconnect - but I don't think your tranny has a TV cable, I think it maybe all electrical, not sure tho. fd25 03-05-2005, 01:47 AM porscheguy9999 & dksob81, thank you for your reply. my jgc has a straight six engine. to be honest im not to familiar with what a tv cable is. i did some further snooping around and i was able to retreive a dtc p1762 (governor pressure sensor signal too high or to low), and after driving it around for about half an hour i noticed that second gear will kick in @ about 4000rpm, every other gear kicks in just fine. i poured some lucas transmission but it really didnt do much. i dont know if this helps any but, the problem started happening after i used it during the last snow storm we had. i hope this helps you some. once again thank you for your replies and any further diagnostic and repair advice would be greatly apreciated. dksob81 03-05-2005, 01:52 AM Yes that helped alot Your Governor Pressure Sensor is your problem. If I am correct it controls the 3-4 up shift and 4-3 downshift. fd25 03-05-2005, 01:56 AM dksob81, thanx for the advise. i will give it a shot first thing in the morning. i will update as soon as im done . by the way do you happen to know where this sensor is located??????????? fd25 dksob81 03-05-2005, 02:05 AM I think it is mounted on the Valve body, I am not quite sure, but I will find out. fd25 03-05-2005, 02:08 AM id apreciate it thnaks dksob81 03-05-2005, 07:18 AM Yes, The Governor Pressure Sensor and Solenoid are mounted on the valve Body (on my 94 w/ 46RH transmission, I am sure it is the same on your transmission as well). I do believe it is mounted on the top of the Valve Body (don't quote me tho) so you will need to remove the valve body to get to it. fd25 03-05-2005, 10:18 AM ok im gonna give it a shot. thanx fd25 03-05-2005, 06:31 PM dksob, you just saved me alot of money. i replaced the gps and the check engine light went off, and i have no further shifting problems. thanx a lot for your time and advise. dksob81 03-05-2005, 08:03 PM Your Welcome, Thats what we're here for, good to hear you got the jeep runnin. How much was the GPS? fd25 03-05-2005, 09:53 PM the regular price for the gps was $85, luckily i have a friend that works for mopar so i got off with a discount $50. i also threw in some of that mopar atf. it was an exremely easy job though, i didnt even have to pull the valve body. do you think the lucas tranny additive could have made things worse in this case???????? dksob81 03-05-2005, 10:21 PM No, I don't think so. and thank you for the price. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
