My 97 blazer's engine light came on,so I took it to get it read.
A code came back that I had a transmission solenoid malfunction.
I think the code was p785(?).I have noticed since then, when I try to go from from a complete stop,it hesitates to go.But it does go.What is
the solenoid for?Could it be a simple fix?
Thanks

Have you had any problems with it dying or the dash lights coming on and going off at strange times?

It's too early to say for sure, but the 97s have faulty ignition switches that will sometimes cause transmission solenoid codes.

Now that you mention it,my key is stuck in the ignition. It just started doing that today.
I have had no problems with it dying or the lights.

P0785 - Shift Timing Solenoid

1997 + ignition issues + random transmission codes usually = ignition switch

So if i replace the ignition switch, the solenoid shouldn't act up?

In most cases yes, the ignition switch controls a lot.

BlazerLT,
One more thing.
When replacing the ignition switch,do I replace the cylinder in which the key goes into as well?If so,will it need to be coded? On a scale of 1-10,how difficult is this to do?I replaced a cylinder and switch on my 97 Camry and it wasn't that bad.
Thanks for any input.

I have this same problem. Did you change the ignition switch? Did it cure the problem? How hard was it? Cost of the switch?
