I replaced the pins in both front doors of my 98 and can't for the life of me get the springs back on.. I hear there is a tool that dealerships use to get them back in, is there any simple way to do it without going to the dealer?

A door spring compressor is available at a decent parts store, about $20. I have compressed the spring in a vise, tied with 2 strong nylon ties, put the spring in position and then cut the ties and pulled the ties. Watch your fingers if you try this, the tool works better.

I just gave him a link to the correct procedure and tool part #.
It's just plain stupid to try to compress it in a vice. It'll take you more time, and it's dangerous. It's not a light spring, it'll F%$k you up if it breaks free and hits you. Use the tool.

Here is a pic of the NAPA tool. You just use a wrench to adjust the bolt that compresses and decompresses the spring.

I just ordered one from JC's online toolshed ($22. after S&H..thanks for the help! Hopefully having the springs on will boost my spirits after breaking a bolt on my side mirror fastener assembly.

My mirrors shake too. There are cracks in the bottoms that allow them to shake at high speeds. I hear abs plastic glue will fix it lickity split.
