transmission?sweetangel15941 03-02-2005, 11:00 PM I know this is in the saturn forum but maybe anyone could help me. i have a 95 neon manual. Everytime I shift into 2nd gear it grinds and it happens only in 2nd gear. Everyone I talked to said it sounds like a synchroid(sorry if not spelled right) but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and if they got it fixed and how much it would cost...Do you think it would be cheaper just to get a new transmission cuz i heard the labor would be a lot. Also does anyone know how much a camsensor is...engine lights on and thats what the code read..thanx Thanx (I like my saturn alot better) sierrap615 03-03-2005, 12:36 AM sounds like a syncro to me, don't know about the prices is the cam code for the saturn or the neon? sweetangel15941 03-08-2005, 09:07 PM The cam sensor is on for the saturn and the neon...its wierd. Do you think it would be cheaper to get a new transmission or get the synchro fixed?? sierrap615 03-09-2005, 12:04 AM i'm not sure of the cost, every car is different. check this for the cam sensor - http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43380 fundiablo 03-11-2005, 12:53 PM My 97 SC2 sometimes grinds in 3rd. A friend told me it may be a bent fly wheel. What's the best way to get at the synchro? sierrap615 03-12-2005, 02:34 PM replacing the scynros requires overhauling the transmission. (which isn't hard, its kinda fun to work on manual transmissions) sweetangel15941 03-12-2005, 04:24 PM ok on the neon the clutch was just replaced about 2 months ago and about 2 weeks later that grinding in 2nd gear started. Do you think it could be a bent fly wheel or is it just a wierd coincidence that the transmission started to act up?? sierrap615 03-13-2005, 06:09 PM i never have heard of the bent flywheel theory, but i can under stand how a new clutch can cause this problem to appear. the purpose of the synrco is make a shift smoother. new clutch = firmer shift = more work the syrnco needs to do. the basic test of a bad syncro is to double clutch(release clutch, shift out of 1st gear in neutral, apply clutch, wait for RPMs to drop, release clutch, shift into second) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
