wiper problems

Suddenly my wipers interval function stopped working. When I turn the switch from low to full, I only get a little more speed on the wipers. When using the washer, the wipers will move even if I set the switch to "off". I have to turn of the ignition, an start up again to stop them.

The car is a E 350 - 92 mod.
A friend with a similar car has the same problem.
Replacing the wiper control module didn`t solve the problem
Good advices, anybody?

Wasn`t much help to get on this forum. But I located the problem: A burned and broken contact on top of the wiper motor.

Yo dude, I have the same problem in my 89'.... I can switch the it to low and then when I hit the high... It freezes and doesn't know what to do... When I press it for window washing setting, that works. My question to you is how did you fix the problem did you have to rip out gages to just to see what was wrong with them?

On my wiper motor there are a gear house, where ( 3 contacts) tiny metal-thounges slides against a plastic wheel with 3 corresponding "metal-roads". One of the contacts were burned. I cleaned it, bent it a litte and added som contact grease. Problem fixed.
I have a `92, but i think motor is the same. Didnt have to loose the motor - the gearhouse was accessable when I removed cover to wiper motor.
Also make sure there is good ground to wiper motor.
Good luck!

Well at least your wipers wipe your windows. On my 1988 the drivers side for some reason does not hold the wiper down to te window. The passengers side is fine, but it is hard to drive when it is pouring down rain, and your wiper is not working. Wonder what would help hold the wiper down to the window better?

showstopper78 -

1.) It is better if you start your own thread instead of hijacking an old thread. It is unfair to make everyone read through an old thread about problems that are unrelated to yours.

2.) The spring in the wiperarm maybe stretched or weak
