Park Brake Problem

My Park brake recently quit working. The problem is that when I pus the pedal down, it doesn't stay down. The catch for it is messed up somewhere. I haven't taken a look at it just yet, but was wondering if anyone knew where to start looking for places to fix such a problem. Anything that breaks often or something like that?

If you look at the parking brake pedal assembly, you will see that the pedal is attached to a cresent shaped ring with teeth. Towards the bottom of the ring on the assembly, you will see a spring loaded lever (it might be partially hidden by the framework). Usually the grease on this lever gets thick and slows the lever down so it doesn't catch the ring quickly. If you spray the lever and spring with brake cleaner, usually it will free up and work fine afterwards.

i've always replaced the pedal assembly when that happens it's not too expensive but i can't remember how much it costs
