Just curious what some of you have gotten for a gas mileage improvement after replacing your plugs, wires, (optional CAP/ROTOR).

State your year and mileage as well for when you did it.
thanks!
Josh

Josh, just change your plug wires, cap and rotor..it makes good sense to freshen up providing as much energy to the plugs as possible. There is very little science to justifying it. Truck will probably run better, idle better, quicker response, hence probably an improvement in mpg.

Not sure what your after here, comparison to others, or a cost justification factor i.e. is it worth it to invest in plug wires.
Simple answer, the more preventative maintenance you do, the more likely you increase the longevity and smoother operation.

Seems simple to me but I may be missing something....

You might see up to 3-5 mpg difference when you do the change.

But honestly, you need to understand installing new plugs and having them fired by an old cap and rotor is just poor thinking.

Think of the whole system as a chain, with one weak link, the whole system is poor.

No problem, actually how long has it been since the engine has had a full tuneup?

don't know to be honest. I've been steadily doing things every week since I got it to be confident I'm not driving a POS.
I plan on doing the wires and plugs anyway. The rotor and cap I'll determine after I look at it. If I feel it needs to be replaced, I'll do all four items.
As mentioned before, the Blazer idles right, accelerates right, and runs smoothe. So, although I'm trying to improve it, and get it in tip top shape for what it is....I'm a firm believer in "if it aint broke, don't fix it".
But worry not, I'm sure I'll be doing them next time I have a day without snow. Today through Wed. looks like snow.

I'm just always looking to improve my MPG since it sux.

Ok, I'm going to be a little rough on you right now, but it is for your own good.

STOP CUTTING CORNERS!!!

You do a proper tuneup or you don't do it at all.

You replace EVERYTHING that needs to be replaced for maintanence. Cap and rotor are more important than plug wires.

If they are old replace them, you CANNOT visually see if they are working properly. If there is any white corrosion replace it PERIOD.

Do things RIGHT, Do things ONCE! Or don't even do them at all.

As I said earlier, if you are going for economy and efficiency, replacing the plugs and wires but not doing the rest is just plain 100% dumb.

I am sorry about this bro, but you neede a reality check.

For your own good.
