Not kicking into gear... tran probs JWalkerOH 02-27-2005, 12:12 AM
Well when I was driving today my car started kicking in and out of what seemed like neutral, I barely made it up a hill I was on and drifted into a parking lot. Now I can't kick it into reverse or drive (I have auto tranny) my fluid is full, what's the deal, is my tranny F**ked? jeffcoslacker 02-27-2005, 09:33 AM Sounds like it. Or the filter is hogged up. JWalkerOH 02-27-2005, 12:15 PM if i get the tranny replaced, is it possible to replace it with a manual at the same cost? jeffcoslacker 02-27-2005, 01:59 PM No. Converting to manual would involve finding and installing the clutch pivot assembly and pedal, different brake pedal, a hole in the floor, new ECM (they are different for a manual), and probably more stuff I haven't thought of. JWalkerOH 02-27-2005, 05:12 PM So it would be outrageously expensive? jeffcoslacker 02-28-2005, 07:37 AM So it would be outrageously expensive? I would think so, yeah, unless you had a complete donor salvage car sitting right alongside to scavenge from. JWalkerOH 02-28-2005, 04:04 PM well F*ck I need a new tranny... RedBinary 03-28-2005, 06:16 PM Since I found this forum while searching for info on the same problem originally posted here that my girlfriend's '95 Lumina was having I thought I might leave a note on what I found in our case. (Keep in mind that I know nothing about transmissions.) I took off the pan to replace the filter as was suggested here. I found that one of the three hard lines (bent tubing) had become loose and was no longer secured into its port. I went ahead and replaced the filter and tapped the line back into its port with a rubber mallet. All is fine now. Thanks you to everyone who write all the knowledgable posts! ;Patrick jeffcoslacker 03-29-2005, 07:48 AM Since I found this forum while searching for info on the same problem originally posted here that my girlfriend's '95 Lumina was having I thought I might leave a note on what I found in our case. That's great info to have. I haven't seen that happen, but I can see it happening. I'm sure a tranny shop would never tell you that's all it was.;) Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
