Has anyone come accross problems with the automatic transmissions used in the 2001 ram 1500 magnum sport quad pickup 4x4? I just had mine rebuilt with only 61,000 miles on it and was told that dodge knew of a problem with many of these transmissions. I am trying to get Dodge to pay for it....Am I wasting my time? Thanks

I bought a 2001 ram 1500 quad cab long box 4WD 5.7L Automatic with 78,000 miles on 1/3/05, and have not had it run right for more than two full weeks since. the engine, steering, brakes, etc. are fine, but the transmission feels like it is about ready to fall out. it has been to two different dealers, and has has an overdrive sensor, and a governor pressure plate(?) and another kind of sensor installed. the first time it was opened up under my ownership, (9 days after i took delivery), they found a small piece of a retainer clip. I am Looking into what legal options i have, as i have not been able to drive this thing for more than 1/2 of the time i have owned it. PLEASE!!!! email if you have any sort of similar story, because i would like to have more backup in case i go to court with this, and i would also be more than happy to help you in any way. please email! Good Luck! BUY CHEVY!

these transmissions have had a history of failures. What the cause is: there is an 845 ft lb coil spring that applies the overdrive gearset in direct drive and when its time to shift into overdrive, the transmission has to disengage that huge, heavy coil spring. That causes all hell to break loose in these transmissions, I rebuild them all the time and keeps me busy! I have to admit, it's a poor design to obtain overdrive, can you pursue any legal action, that's up to you, most people that I've seen that have tried to do anything end up giving up b/c of costs, time involved and other factors.

I had a 01 1500 quad with a 5.9 . The trans started acting up about 30000. Have lots of friends at tranny shop and they say the fluid lines have a checkvalve in the lines. Its made out of plastic so it heats up and melts blocking the lines so the fluid does not circulate and cool off. So it basically melts the internals. If your tranny is acting up its to late to save that one.
