I have a question as to which is the best way to get to the upper transmission to engine bolts. They are impossiable to see from the top or bottom. I would think you have to remove them from the top. But what did you have to remove from the engine bay to get at them? Any help would be greatly appreciated because I need to get this tranny out ASAP. This is for a 96 S-10 Blazer 4.3l, 4l60E, 4x4.

They have to be accessed from the bottom. You can try with swivel sockets, sometimes they work. Or you have a couple of other choices, neither pretty. The first is to unbolt all the body mounts on both sides of the vehicle forward of the transmission, and lift the body up enough for clearance, usually about two inches at the radiator body mount. The second is to look at the body near the transmission bolt. See the seam that hangs down and blocks access to the bolts. Put a large bar up there and bend the seam up for clearance. It can go up about an inch. Then there will be enough room to get to the bolts.

Like I said, not pretty but it works.

Take out crossmember and lower the back of the tranny as possible. Still not easy but you get a bit more room. Seen some guys pull the carpet back and cut the floor just behind the bolt heads. Cut an x pattern and bend the flaps back. Bend them back when done, seal with duct tape and the carpet covers it up.

I did get them out by lowering the back of the tranny. I just wasn't looking from the right angle before. Anyway thanks for the help guys now it's time to start the rebuild.
