rear diff problems.... NEED HELPpmurphywy 02-23-2005, 11:54 PM Hey guy, you all seem to know alot about ....well almost everything..... so here is my problem......a couple weeks ago i started to notice a funky grinding noise coming from the back end of my 97 ram 1500 sport 4x4. i thought it might have been brakes. so i went out and bought all new brake hardware... turns out it wasnt the brakes and it was one of the (cant really call it a clip but) clips that hold the clutch plates together for the limited slip......now my question is should i got out and buy a whole new rear diff??? (which if i do,i do alot of offroading and want something that will be able to take a beating, what should i buy and where can i get it quick???) or can i get that clip(for a lack of a better word) and just pop it back in.....by the way its a chrysler 9 and 1/4 inch rear end ....any input would be great......thnx fredjacksonsan 02-25-2005, 10:50 AM I'd try a reputable shop and have your rear end rebuilt. You didn't say how many miles are on the truck, but with a lot of offroading on a 8 year old vehicle it may be time; especially with the limited slip unit. pmurphywy 02-25-2005, 12:10 PM the truck just broke 110,000 miles on it.......a freind of mine is sending me a no-slip locker and i was just gonna throw that in since it is made to replace the limited slip..........thanks for the input fredjacksonsan 02-25-2005, 12:11 PM Sure thing; yeah 110K it's time. 1thunder 02-27-2005, 12:58 PM Good choise locker will take a beating ang offers no slippage at all watch you axles though these lockers are strong vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
