Most Bang for the Buck?UnderEstimate Me 02-22-2005, 01:26 AM Hey, Ive been a fan of these forums for a while and I know you guys know what you're talking about. (For the most part) So I just wanted your suggestion on what kind of car I should get, I cant really find anything that calls out to me.I have about 10000 ready to spend (maybe up to 12 if I absolutley need to have it) What do you think would be a nice car that has a pretty good stock speed, and does well with a couple of light mods as well? I would want a 4 door just because its more practical but I wouldnt mind getting a coupe one bit. I was thinking about like a 2000-1 accord or a newer mustang GT? Whatever suggestions you guys have are welcome. thanks a bunch, I hope I can start getting some kills(and maybe some deaths) posted as soon as possbile. Its pretty rare to kill anything with a 90 1.5L civic... -The Stig- 02-22-2005, 01:38 AM http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=113463 ^ FAQ on buying cars. read that, get a few ideas... http://www.google.com Google yourself those ideas, get a few answers. Don't come back till you've found yourself a car you like, and you've bought. Hate to say it, we're tired of people asking for the perfect answer to their car search. Take it from Captain Planet kids... "The Power is... YOURS!" w00t! UnderEstimate Me 02-22-2005, 01:50 AM Im not looking for the perfect answer to my car search. Im just looking for people who know what they are talking about. You can only learn so much about a car by going to vehix or whatever. Theres more to cars than just the numbers I want knowledge from people who have had expirence with the cars firsthand. -The Stig- 02-22-2005, 01:57 AM Ok, what cars do you want info on? We have a mix of cars, you'll get alot of different answers. This thread will go on for 62 pages of people bantering back and forth. I seriously doubt you'll walk away with a clear picture of what YOU want. CassiesMan 02-22-2005, 01:59 AM For 10k, Im sure you can find an older higher miliage E36 ///M3 if you look around hard enough. Good, well rounded car, takes well to mods...shit, for 30k you can have one of those running 11s... chevytrucks92 02-22-2005, 02:22 AM Its like Red says, too many choices out there and too many mod combinations (and everyone will be biased to their favorite brand). You see, I'd suggest 98-02 F-body. They take really well to mods. But you're going to pay the price for one now, unless its eat up with miles. PWRDbyUNCLEbens 02-22-2005, 03:05 AM Definantley do your OWN search for a car so you have no one to blame but yourself for neglecting to buy a nissan :grinno: Everyone in this forum is probably going to have a biased opinion. Find out about a few cars you like then find out about their potential, quality, and insurance rates, and you're sure to find a good car. nhstiger75 02-22-2005, 11:41 AM Good places to start would be Gran Prix GTP (If you're lucky), Honda Civic, Dodge Neon, Grand Am GT, Sunfire GT, Nissan 240 SX, Chevy Cavalier. All of them SHOULD come in that price range and respond well to mods (Especially the Neon and Civic) and most perform excellently stock (Twin overhead cams on the Sunfire for example). That should be pretty unbiased. HighRev87 02-22-2005, 12:04 PM Uhhh..... American: Mustang 99-01ish can be had for that price 99ish DOHC possible(I am so not biased) * LS1 f-body * Grand Prix GTP Imports: e36 m3 (I am never biased to Bimmers *blushes*) However like cassie said, hard to find for that price. * Integra GSR vtech prelude There are soooo many more, you have to make the choice yours. My suggestion would be to check eBay: I got my car for 8100, 99 Mustang GT, 5speed, leather interior, mach audio, power everything, cruise control.....ect. Good deals can be found there. *= recomended by me, your god. JRico00 02-22-2005, 12:09 PM You could also get a first or second gen DSM and still have money left over for upgrades. HighRev87 02-22-2005, 12:42 PM You could also get a first or second gen DSM and still have money left over for upgrades. And then you match every other person around you. I dont like DSMs at all anymore, only because after the movie, everyone and thier mother is rocken' one. dampachi 02-22-2005, 01:02 PM For $10k you could have: an 11 second foxbody (87-93) mustang. An 11 second 1st gen eclipse GSX. Or a mid to high 12 second turbo B18C1 92-95 civic hatch. That's if you have an actual $10k in cash ready to spend. And not that you're willing to pay payments on a $10,000 car. JRico00 02-22-2005, 01:07 PM A first gen DSM wouldn't be so FnF, plus they're lighter. I only suggested second gen because most people prefer the look of the second gen. With 10K you could aslo get yourself an older non-turbo 3000GT/Stealth or RX-7 with plenty left over for upgrades. Or a newer TT version of either with not so much left over for upgrades. Mr. Luos 02-22-2005, 02:00 PM Buy my 2001 Grand Am, and toss a turbo on it. youngvr4 02-22-2005, 02:05 PM rednecks point exactly ^^ :grinno: Sleepr awd 02-22-2005, 05:59 PM i can get you a 91 300zx TT that needs work for cheap a first gen DSM is an awesome car to mod, and i'm learning more and more of the potential of an s13 KA24DE-T :-D street_racer_00 02-22-2005, 06:52 PM Hasn't this topic been beat to death many a time before? drftk1d 02-22-2005, 06:53 PM nissan s-chassis (240sx 89-95). fox mustang. -Josh- 02-22-2005, 10:12 PM Since the Buick contingency hasn't made it into this thread yet, i'll go ahead and throw in Turbo Buick's. :bigthumb: Hypsi87 02-23-2005, 07:18 PM Since the Buick contingency hasn't made it into this thread yet, i'll go ahead and throw in Turbo Buick's. :bigthumb: mmmmmmmhhhhhhhmmmmmm Cheap insurance, 23 MPG 1,500 bucks will put you in the 11's 0n pump gas all day long crunchymilk55 02-24-2005, 12:07 AM the 1st gens DSMs are lighter by like 20 pounds or something. Not really a difference I'm gonna say get a 2g DSM is u want looks as well as speed, or get a 1g is looks aren't that big of a deal. AWD + turbo. with the left over money you can have them running VERY VERY fast! jeffs_GTP_sleeper 02-24-2005, 04:12 AM $4000 on a good 97+GTP and then $5000 in trans/engine mods. Should be reliably in the 11s. :smokin: jeffs_GTP_sleeper 02-24-2005, 04:13 AM i'll go ahead and throw in Turbo Buick's. Definitely going to be my next "project" car. :evillol: CassiesMan 02-24-2005, 04:27 AM Could always go try to find a junked muscle car, and rebuild it. Phunyguy 02-24-2005, 04:32 AM 1992 honda prelude SI - $2000 - H23 engine with 8,000 to 10,000 bucks left over to build it. same thing with an older civic or 240sx. i think i would be more biased to the 240sx though. for 6 - 8000 you can BUY the car... drop a sr20det in it, upgrade the turbo / manifold / rims / tires / suspension / intercooler - and run low 12's - high 11's all day. tell me that aint the most bang for the buck. drftk1d 02-25-2005, 03:49 PM Threads like this are funny because (in most cases) people reccomend their own cars. well i would like to say this: don't get an rx7. Steiner 02-27-2005, 01:38 AM Pay $3k-$5k for an old muscle car with good lines and no rust and then spend the balance on mods. You'll save a ton on insurance, be smog exempt, and be able to mod the holy hell out of the motor for relatively little money. My first car was a '66 Barracuda. I paid $3100 and spent another $4k on the car. It did mid 13's. Not bad for a heavy car w/just a 318ci. street_racer_00 02-27-2005, 05:02 AM Don't get a maxima either....25 grand for the car+ $1000-$1500 in mods=still not out of the 15's Fully_Sick 02-27-2005, 12:01 PM nissan 180sx all the way, $10kAUS with sr20det and minor air flow and boost mods, will see you into 13s. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
