Hey All,

I was looking around and found this articale where some pepole were useing this stuff called Toluene as an additive to their gas. What they said was it was a super cheap Octane booster. It also said that Toluene is already a part of most octane boosters you find on the shelfs of most stores. One other thing I read was that when a bottle of octane boost says it will improve the octane level in your gas seven points it means, if you have a 93 octane level on your fuel you wont get a 100 point octane, you will get a 93.7 octane. Can anyone tell me if any of this is true, or if you use it Thanks

I have never heard of the Toulene stuff, but the second part of your question is infact true. If you go to the store and look at the expensive bottles of octane booster, they actually will have that somewhere in fine print on the bottle. If is says it will riase your octane by 5 points, and your starting with 91 octane, you will have 91.5 octane after adding the booster.

Howdy!
What IŽve heard is that it works like a charm. Try searching for "homebrew gasoline octane boosters".
IŽll probably start using it in a few weeks when I got my engine back in place (splayed main caps comin up).
Good luck!

Be careful around Toluene. I worked for a newspaper in the pressroom years ago and we used a product called "Varn" and it was Toluene and it was used as a strong cleaner on the press to help cut the buildup of ink, clean surfaces, etc. A bunch of us who used the product regularly developed respiratory irritations that developed into infections and bronchitis. Try not to breathe the fumes in an enclosed area, make sure there is plenty of fresh air while you are handling the product, and use gloves also. The product was harder to obtain in later years, and the price we paid for it skyrocketed due to the E.P.A. regulations that were increased on that product.
