Can I ask why you feel the need to use that manufacturer's filter? Just curious, not trying to be smart-assed. I just wondered, because I tend to use O.E where I can, but I deal mainly with GM and Ford, and A/C Delco and Motorcraft are common and cheap to buy.

I had several customers that owned japanese cars that brought their own oil filter when they got service done at my shop. The most common reason they gave for it was that they heard (falsely) that only their brand of filter incorporates the anti-drainback valve that helps protect on start-up by keeping more oil in the engine after it is shut off.

This is not true. Most good makes of filter have this feature, if the O.E. application spec'd it. Some really cheapo filters don't. If there is any question, you can look inside it and see. There will be a spring and check valve looking item in the center, where a filter without it, you just see open area and filter media.

If that was your concern, I hope this straightens it out for you. If not, I'd like to hear your reason, oil filters are a favorite subject of mine, and I've done a lot of reading about them.

Thanks!

I just bought a Accord for the son, always been Ford,GMC guy. Took the Honda in for a valve adjust, the owner noticed I used Autozone parts for the tuneup and was not to thrilled. I guess official honda parts are good for some apps like gaskets, but im sure there belts are not anybetter than Gates and other brands. I did buy some Kelly Springfeild belts at Autozone, have to admit they are to light weight and returned them.
I will use wix, napa or ac delco for the oil filters in my cars now. Fram seems to get alot of negative results in the forums so I stopped using them.
The honda parts are to expensive for the routine maintence items.

thanks
