2005 stereo removal nrs 02-19-2005, 12:15 AM
Anyone know how to remove the stereo from a 2005 2500 Silverado? I need to get to the back of the stereo. Thanks blackbok 02-19-2005, 04:21 PM 1.Put your key in and turn it to the 2nd position (do not start) 2.Drop it into 1st gear 3.Pry the trim around the dash off with your fingers. It is held on by clips. Be careful, but don't be scared. 4.With the trim off, take out the 3-4 bolts holding the stereo in the dash. 5.Pull it out! 2000 Silverado 4x4 02-23-2005, 11:31 PM Make sure that you do not have RDS system in your truck!! This is VERY Important! To check, stick your key in the ignition and lean down by the drivers kick panel. If the dinger plays through your drivers door speaker then you have it. If it sounds anywhere else you don't have it. RDS is a radio diagnostic system which means your trucks computer is part of the radio. If you disconnect the radio and replace it without the proper harnesses for RDS then you will have problems. Ex your airbags could blow out in your face without warning, abs lock up at any given time etc etc. GM uses RDS in various 2000 and newer models. Pass this on to friends rabt 02-25-2005, 05:05 PM RDS Radio trucks are not the only trucks that the radio is part of your BCM all TRUCKS from 2003 up are like this but it doesn't control anything but the streering wheel controls (if you have them) and they plays the "dinger" through the driver door speaker ..... they also "learn" the VIN number from the truck jeverett 02-28-2005, 07:23 AM RDS is what makes the station name show up. You have no worry of blowing your airbags out. Lobstah 09-30-2005, 01:12 PM I plan to replace my current AM/FM with a 2004 AM/FM/CD/Cassette that was taken out of a Silverado, so I doubt that I'd have any compatibility problems? Lob jeverett 10-03-2005, 07:37 PM More than likely not. Usually radios from 99-02 are interchangable, as are the 03-present models. Lobstah 10-03-2005, 08:11 PM Well...turns out it IS a problem. Radio comes on a displays "12:23 LOCKED". I've tried the retrieval methods (holding 2+3 for 10sec) and nothing ever changes. I'll stop in at my dealership tomorrow and see what they have to say. Lob jeverett 10-03-2005, 08:58 PM ohh..theres a thread about unlocking the radios on here somewhere Lobstah 10-03-2005, 10:12 PM Yes...it's a sticky at the top of the forum. That's what I was talking about. It doesn't seem to work on 05 models. Lob Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
