Sirius and Stock Stereo maverik67 02-18-2005, 11:21 PM
Here is my situation. I have a 2005 Grand Prix GT. I am a Sirius subscriber and currently have an FM modulated Sirius tuner. I am not pleased with the interference from multiple radio stations within the available bands and want to connect the tuner direct to the stereo. I have tried repositioning the tuner but the strength of the local stations still causes interference. I found a converter (P.I.E. GM12-AUX 2003-2005 GM Auxiliary input converter) and wondered if this would work with my vehicle and the stock stereo allowing me to connect the output from my Sirius tuner to the stock stereo. The current stereo is a single disc cd w/no cd changer (but it appears from the buttons I could add one). It also has a CD/Aux button but does not have XM. It is also RDS capable/compatible if that makes a difference. Let me know if anyone has anyone has experience with this modification and if this converter would work OR if I need a different one OR if I am screwed and need to get an aftermarket stereo. It is a lease car and I really dont want to resort to this option. Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas. UPDATE: I was able to complete this mod. using the GM12-AUX. Costs anywhere from $65 (0n the net) to $95 if you want to get it at a parts store. It was a bit tricky when trying to connect the 12VDC but the directions are basic and clear. The 12v connection was the only difficulty I had. Ultimately, I had to plug the 12v wire into the existing 12v supply wire in the 24 pin plug on the back of the stereo. Then connect ground to any one of the screws on the back of the stereo. Once it is all connected, reconnect the negative terminal of the battery. The radio should recognize the new setup. By pressing the "Band" button you now have two additonal options beyond FM, FM2 and AM. It adds AUX1 and AUX2. If when you press the Band button you do not see Aux1 and 2 as you cycle through, you likely do not have the 12v/ground connections correct. Once you get it all working an connect the audio output of the Sirius tuner or MP3 player to the GM12, stuff it all back in and close it up. Hope this helps anyone who is trying. Good luck.. orlzx6r 12-10-2005, 12:05 PM I have and '04 Grand Prix and want to do the same thing. I've just purchaced the PIE GM12-AUX adapter.... What color wire in the 24 pin harness did you connet the 12v wire up to??? From looking at the harness I would guess the yellow, but not sure. Here is my situation. I have a 2005 Grand Prix GT.
