My '91 S10 has 145000 miles on it with an automatic tranny. When i go from park to reverse/drive it feels like it drops into that gear. It runs fine but there is a slight jolt as i go from park to drive/reverse. What could cause this problem, if there is one?

u joint if there is a ping sound to go with it, otherwise it could be breaks needing adjusting/ missing a bolt, or its just the massive amount of power, push the break peddle harder next time. and make sure you come to a complete stop before you switch gears or put it into park.

Sounds like the idle is too high.
a bad u-joint could be anything from a ping, to a clunk or a squeak when putting it into gear.

Could also be a bad tranny or motor mount!
