Hi-
First time poster-
I bought a 2000 tacoma 2 weeks ago- It's 5 speed manual, 4wd, I think 4 cylinder. Everything is great except I noticed that when Im on the road, got it in 5th gear, the gas pedal is pressed to the floor but yet Im only going 55/ 60 mph! Cant seem to go any faster even if the rd. is flat! I'm gonna call up the dealer and maybe get it checked out before the 1 month warrenty is up, but does anyone here have any idea what the problem might be or a possible solution? Someone told me it might have a Rev limiter or something- (I didnt notice what RPMs it was at when going that speed) -if thats the case, how the heck can I go faster when I need to?

Thanks for any suggestions!

It's not a rev limiter at 60 mph in 5th gear. More than likely, your fuel filter or pump or pressure regulator are bad. Could also be other things.

You think 4 Cylinder?

The engine is strong enough when running correctly to power the truck to 90mph without problem. There may be other problems, but the first thing to check is the fuel filter.

Have you checked the hubs. Make sure they are not locked. I have noticed that when my hubs are locked that it limits my top end speed.

Will it go 60 mph in 4th grear? Read the rpm in both 4th and 5th. Does the truck slowdown going up hills? Do you have standard size wheels? Have you looked to see if the exhaust pipe or tail pipe have been flattened or damaged? If your rpm is greater in 5th than in 4th at 60 mph you probably have a slipping clutch.

sounds like a restricted exhaust.

I would definitely say check your hubs first and foremost. then take the fuel filter/system route

I had a Toyota once that had an internally collapsed muffler. It would idle fine but couldn't get it to do over 45mph. Repaced the muffler and all OK!!

holy old thread revival. anyways, 4 low doesnt let you go over like 15 MPH. i think you mean 4 high.

what you can go way over 15 mph in four low you can go about 65 to 70 in four low

in four low about 60 like he said up there, four hi is just like two hi but maybe a little slower about 105, i got my tacoma 4 cyl, 4wd to 110 in 2hi when the rev limiter hits, but sounds like a fuel problem
