Oil Leak 1998 Camry 4 Cylinder cdlubbe 02-16-2005, 09:24 PM
I have a 1998 Camry LE with the 4 cylinder.I noticed tonight that there is some oil sitting on top of the intake manifold in the low spots.Seems worse on the passenger side.I can not seem to tell where it could be coming from.I had the valve cover gasket replaced about 1000 miles ago.The car has 101,000 miles on it. At the same time that the valve cover gasket was replaced,it had the following items replced:timing belt, water pump thermostat, coolant, all accy.belts, oil pump seals and rubber o-ring gasket, crank seal, cam seal. They repced every seal or gasket on that side of the engine. So I am not sure what could be allowing oil to seap onto the top of the intake manifold? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks...Chuck Lubbe Brian R. 02-17-2005, 09:10 PM Try torquing down the tubes that hold the valve cover on. They are not torqued very tight and may come loose and need to be retightened. I would try 17 ft-lbs. Good luck. cdlubbe 02-17-2005, 11:48 PM Hello Brian:Thanks for the advise.I do not have a toque wrench, but I was able to snug the outer tubes down a little tighter.I did not want to over-tighten them either. Is this pretty common for these to slightly loosen up and allow some oil leakage? Do the seals on the oil filler caps ever wear out and need to be replaced? I want to do anything needed to keep from having any oil leaks on this engine. Thanks for the information. Brian R. 02-18-2005, 08:29 AM Everything dies eventually, but I doubt your fill cap seal is bad. Torque all the tubes down evenly. Get a torque wrench - borrow or buy. Eventually, they will pay for themselves. cdlubbe 02-19-2005, 10:24 AM Hello:Thanks for the advise.Since I snugged the tubes down securing the valve cover,I have seen no oil leaks. That is good. The information given have been very helpful. Thanks...Chuck Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
