Belt "gaps" f81002 02-16-2005, 08:05 PM
I've noticed those little "gaps" in the belt that Shadetreeme talked about in his earlier post. Are they supposed to be there, or are they cracks?? I have a 2001 Impala. What should I expect to pay to have my belt changed? I don't want to get ripped off. 3.4imp 02-16-2005, 10:07 PM i think the gaps are tiny cracks caused by the belt being hot & cold. it's pretty easy to fix. the LS is easier than the base model '97ventureowner 02-17-2005, 12:25 AM I used to sell auto parts and we sold some serpentine belts with little gaps in them. The salesman who serviced us explained that they are there to help "seat" the belt in the grooved pulleys, and to allow for slight flexing. Here in Texas go to O'Reilly Auto Parts, serpentine belt Armor Mark $23. and Pep Boys will install any part you buy somewhere else! Just charge you labor. I cost me $25 and is the cheapest I have found. Good luck. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
