I have a 94 2.2 w/5 speed manual. I turn the key, i hear the fuel pump turn on but the engine does not. My battery is reading between the 9 and 14 mark, dead center, so im guessing that my battery is fine. when i turn the key, all i hear is the fuel pump, the interior chime, and everything electrically works fine. i dont hear any clicking however. for the past 3 days, i have had to put it in 1st gear with the clutch pushed in, push it with someone, then let go of the clutch so the engine finally turns over.
Also, before this problem came about, i had difficulty starting my car, sluggish starting, when i had the clutch pushed all the way to the floor. i dont know if this is a clutch problem or something else, but i need your wise mechanical minds to guide me. im sure that u will agree with me when i say it is a thorn in your side when somethings wrong with your ride.
Please help the purplebeast ride again.

Thanks,
PurpleBeast94

p.s. i have just installed (about a month old now) those euro designs flexible l.e.d underbody light kit. do you think that would have anything to do with my problem.

I would take a very good guess at your alternator, you can test it quite easily. Take a chunk of 8 gage wire and jump the positive lead of the battery to the alternator. Be careful when doing this, it's not exactly the way they tell you to test them. Or you can take it out and take it down to a parts store and have them test it. If it tries to turn over then the alternator is good if not then replace it. If the alternator is good then you might want to look at your solenoid and see if that is closing.

Have the battery tested with a tester that puts a load on it. any part store will do that for you.
the alt. could of killed the battery maby pull that out and have tested with the battery.
Ive seen bad grounds (battery to block) that cause a no start. if all that checks out good 2 things come to mind, bad nutral safty switch or bad starter.
hope this will help..

Start with the obvious first: the battery..... get it checked as was suggested. If it checks okay, then you've probably got a bum starter solenoid. You're getting juice enough to run the fuel pump and lights...

Your "euro lights".... well they could be a factor.... you can always disconnect them and see what happens... but do the battery check first and if the battery is good, then I would disconnect the lights and see what happens.

If you're not even hearing a click but it runs fine after popping the clutch, and you're getting power to your accessories, then I would bet more on a bad starter than anything...

I agree on the starter, go to an autoparts place they can check your electrical system. Also i have that same kit on my truck. Light emitting diodes draw soo little current. I have mine running through a 2 amp fuse. they require next to nothing. so i dont think that would have any factor. ive left mine on for days upon days to see if they would effect anything if i accidently left them on and my truck didnt have any trouble cranking over. well good luck dude. Are yours multi color too?

well boys, i tried out the starter option. after completely getting the starter loose, and removing two brackets from the engine and the bell housing, the only trouble i had, was taking off the wire on top of the starter. i tried and tried, but it got the best of me. i had a $250 gift card to pep boys, so i had them do it.the truck starts right up now, but i now have a rattleing noise whenever i get to a certain rpm, not known due to gm's brilliant lack of a tack with a manual tranny, then i let go of the gas and i get the rattleing. thanks for all ur help guys. i love this website as it is a HUGE help. thanks again.

ps. my euro led underbodies are one color. my stock paint is purple metalic, so i got purple l.e.d.s. they look freaking sweet too.

Check to make sure that the inspection plate is bolted up completely... (As well as the support bars)

Sounds like the heat shield for the starter.

Last time I looked, our starters don't have a heat shield.

Glade to hear your trucks fix. oh and for that starter bolt that held the wire on, the way i got it off was to get a friend under the truck to push the starter up (wires facing towrds the hood) and a ratchet with a long extener on it and unscrew that little bugger... worked for me, just some adive to keep your truck out of the shop, i gave up trusting them when my wheel fell off leaving the parking lot after a break job.
