Idle Air Control Valve miro1118 02-16-2005, 09:33 AM
Does my 96 jetta GLS with 2.0 have an Idle air control valve? I had the code p1582 and I cleaned the throttle body. The CEL is still on. I have not been able to get it scanned yet. I disconnected the battery for 20 minutes after removing and cleaning the throttle body and the cel never went out. I was thinking that the light is still on becuase the ECU still needs to learn the proper throttle position. I ordered the OBDtool this week and am waiting for it to come in the mail. I am just thinking ahead in case the code is still 1582 on what else the problem could be. Please help! boschmann 02-16-2005, 05:01 PM A likely culprit is the MAF, needs a VW or VAG-COM to properly diagnose. miro1118 02-16-2005, 06:00 PM A likely culprit is the MAF, needs a VW or VAG-COM to properly diagnose. I just ordered this: http://www.obdtool.com/ Do you think its good? boschmann 02-17-2005, 08:46 PM It's a generic hardware interface for using the VAG-COM shareware. It should work fine, but don't expect Ross Tech to help with any software issues. Get a good repair manual like Bentley to go along with it as it only gives you the data, not how to interpret it.
