i have a 1985 2.5 4 cylinder 2wd and i want to put in a v6 from a newer s10.. what would i have to change in order to do this? I know i would have to change the mounts but would i have to change the tranny, rad, rear diff, drive shaft and all that??

yip to all of that, and a new computer, and maybe even a new fuel pump and sending unit.

Want a cheaper way to do this? Pick up a s10 with a V6.

It will be more expensive to upgrade your than to get the truck with the engine already installed.

So, you don't like the "Iron Duke"? Some other conversions to think about are done using a GM 3.4L V-6 (that came in late 80's, early 90's F-Bodies aka Camaro & Firebird.)

You can buy these motors as a GM "crate engine" (a new long block to which you add headers, fuel delivery {carb or F/I} and the accessory drive) .... or ..... check out the local salvage yard and get the 3.4L with the 700R4 auto trans as a package. They are supposedly a lead pipe cinch to do (you probably need different engine mounts because of the 4 cyl). You snag the motor, trans and all the engine computers.

Another alternative is to slip a late 80's GM 305 (5.0L) V-8 into the engine room.

Use your search engine and look up "2.8 to 3.4 conversions"... some neat stuff shows up and there are some companies out there specializing in these V-6 and V-8 conversions....at the very least you canget an idea of what it will cost.

Me....if I were gonna do a swap.... I go for the 305 conversion...build a sleeper and watch the expressions as you blow doors off the "competion" with your s*%tbox S10... ;-)

i would waste time changing everything. if the 2.5 has a manual fuel pump you could have it bored or buy a truck that has a 2.8 or 4.3 or with a small block 350
